Career advice has helped many people cope with situations related with job and career. The function of career coaches, career clinics, career related etc., are all to provide help and guidance to people in search of careers. In fact, the thorough analysis of career related issues have defined them in a sharper manner and in their proper perspectives. The employee of the 21st century is no more confused between job goals and career goals, and has learned to distinguish between needs of their job (employer) and the needs of their career (personal goals). As a result, the number of sites, tools, and article offering continue to multiply, for the number of people seeking career advice keeps growing each day.
Career advice has become so well recognized and necessary part of modern work-life that over the last two decades, motivational books, essentially career advice, have become mainstream publishing material, and consistently topped the bestseller charts. Businesspersons, self-employed persons, salaried employees, and freelancers all have two simultaneously running streams of needs. The first and primary one is the need for survival, and the second one is the need to actualize one’s self and realize one’s inherent potentials.
It is the second stream of needs that defines career goals and the first stream of needs that sustain the existence and base of such goals. Actualizing one’s potentials is out of the question if survival is at stake, and once survival is secure, progress towards career goals become natural. Following good assures that you not only manage to survive, but also able to overcome barriers and realize yourself. Regrettably, for many people who never spend time to focus on and define their career goals, life reduces to a struggle for daily existence and lost potentials. To enjoy the life we have, and to fulfill our duties as well as wishes, we need to rethink our career goals and strategies.
